The clumped flower cluster of the dramatic species lily, Cardiocrinum giganteum, (kar-dee-oh-CRY-num) can reach heights of 5-10' on its flower stalk, with trumpet-shaped flowers that are highly fragrant. When finished blooming, the plant sets its seeds where the blooms once were, and a dramatic stalk with seed pods the size of large gnocchis remains throughout the winter.
